ABOUT THE PLAY

8 actors. Run time of approximately 90 minutes.

When I was 18, I went on my first trip abroad to attend the University of Virginia’s Young Writers Workshop (UVA) in Charlottesville. To say this was a transformative experience would be a huge understatement. Prior to this trip, I was still in the closet, and had been hiding my identity (to the immense detriment of my mental health) for five years prior. Camp was the first place I felt comfortable enough to come out. It’s also where I met my first queer partner.

Willows is a semi-naturalistic play set in a dormitory at an arts camp in rural Alberta, based on my experience attending and teaching at writing and theatre camps since 2007.
